Cathy moved with her family to St. John’s when she was 12. She grew up in the East End, where by the age of 16 she was working on the front-line in the food services sector. By age 18 she was managing 50 people. Cathy is the former CEO of the Bennett Group of Companies which has hundreds of employees and multiple businesses.
Cathy works every day to lead by example, and giving back to her community is at the core of everything she does. With the support and motivation of her husband Doug and their sons, Cameron and Liam, Cathy commits her time and energy to many charitable organizations.
Throughout her career Cathy has been a champion for the City of St. John’s and an advocate for the economic potential of Newfoundland and Labrador. As Chairperson of the St. John’s Board of Trade, as Governor of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council, and through her involvement in numerous other boards and committees, she has been focused on the development of our economy and creating opportunities for those who want to call this place home.
In 2014, Cathy was elected to the House of Assembly. She served as the Opposition Critic for Finance and Status of Women while advocating for her constituents on many important issues.
